Rose’s Diaries: 4 Things We Wish You’d Stop Believing About Escorts

The next time you think about labelling us as “whores”, just remember that we’re probaaaably earning 3 times your pay. Let that sink in.

I’d like to think that we’re past the age of degrading and side-eyeing sex workers. Being in the escort business for over 2 years, there’s nothing more I’d wish to believe in than a welcoming, safe and warm world for sex workers –but the harsh reality still stands. Our work is CLEARLY cut out for us and there’s much to do to even begin disbanding myths and taboos surrounding sex work. I’m nothing if not up for a challenge, so here’s 4 things we’d wish you would quit believing about escorts already. Pretty please?

1.    We’re all prostitutes.
Ugh, I cannot tell you the hours I’ve spent exhaustively explaining what I do to people, my lifestyle, the way escorting works only to be met with, “...so basically prostitution?” No, no and no! Working as a prostitute almost always entails sexual favors, which is something not needed in escorting. There are many times where I’ve met clients not the least bit interested in sex, but rather a quiet evening at a restaurant or just plain old drinks during happy hour at a bar. The nature of escorting is in the word itself; which basically just means we’re there to provide our clients with human company –sex is optional and sometimes not even needed.

2.    We’ve been physically or emotionally abused.
First of all…what? Being ‘damaged goods’ is not any part of the job specifications of being an escort, sorry to disappoint. I ventured into escorting out of my own free will and love of the fancier things in life, so being violated has really nothing to do with it.

3.    We’re only here to fulfil your animal urges.
Granted there are escorts out there who are all up for being a dominatrix, BDSM-loving sub –not all of us are an outlet to practice your weird fetishes on. It’s great if you manage to find someone willing to experiment, but understand that escorts are people and we have boundaries that we’d like respected too.

4.    We’re all unhygienic, STD-infested carriers.
This myth is actually one of my biggest pet peeves. I don’t cleanse, wax strip, exfoliate, moisturize and lotion up just to be considered as unhygienic. A good majority of escorts I know are the most well-groomed people and I know. Besides that, condoms people! Escorts almost never have unprotected sex and we’re expected to go for regular health checkups to make sure we’re free of any infections.

Let’s all work towards understanding escorts and respect what they do!

Much love,
Rose.
